EFFECTIVE 2011 - SJC FAIR & RODEO

Rules:

1) Contestant must be an 8th, 9th, 10th, or 11th grader attending Coldspring or Shepherd ISD or a home school student living       in San Jacinto County.

2) Contestants must provide an academic eligibility form stating they were promoted/advanced from previous grade level      signed by a school representative.

3) Contestant must not be older than 19 years of age.

4) Contestant must be single with no children and never been married.

5) Contestant must complete an application and return it to the chairperson at the first meeting.

6) Contestant must have never held the title of San Jacinto County Fair Queen.

7) Contestants are not permitted to ride stallions in the contest.

8) Any contestant that is caught in a compromising position by any fair board director or queen committee member will automatically      be disqualified.
         Example – drinking, smoking, drugs, etc…..

9) Each contestant will be required to be at the San Jacinto County Fair Livestock sale.  The contestant will be required to stay until      all Grand Champion and Reserve Champion animals are sold.  Contestant must check in and out with the committee member.

10) Each contestant will be required to acquire a sponsor for the contest.  The sponsorship fee is $150.00

11) Each contestant will be required to raise $500.00.  All money raised will go toward scholarship and expenses for event.

12) Each contestant will be required to either exhibit an animal or enter a personal exhibit (not as a group) exhibit in the educational barn for the 2011 SJC Fair.

13) After winning the queen, 1st runner up, 2nd runner up must stay in your attire with your banner on while you are on the        fairgrounds.

 

Scholarships:

In order to receive the scholarship you must use it within one year of your graduation to attend a school or higher education.  The money will be given to you after you have fulfilled your job as queen in October 2012.  The following semester you will need to provide us with proof of attending a school of higher education to receive your money.  Scholarship amounts will depend on the number of entries for that particular year at the discretion of the fair board and queens committee with a minimum of $500.00. 

 

Parade:

Contestant must ride in the fair parade on Saturday, September 24, 2011.  The contestant will ride in a pickup ONLY, displaying on each side of the truck the contestant’s name and sponsor on poster board (12x32).  You will also be required to display anyone who donated money to you towards the $500.00 donations.  The contestant must be clearly visible.  If you choose to decorate your truck and be judged that is your choice but it is not mandatory and it will not count towards the actual queen contest.

 

Interview:

Contestants are required to appear at an informal interview.  The interview will be held at a place to be determined on Saturday September 10th at 10:00 am.  NOBODY will be allowed at the interview other than the contestants, judges, photographer and the queens committee.  The contestants will be required to present a 3 minute speech topic to be provided by the queen’s committee.  The contestants will be judged on both interview and speech.  You will be allowed a 15 second variance in the time of your speech.  You can go over 15 seconds or be under by 15 seconds without having a deduction in your score.  For every second you go over the 15 second variance you will have .5 point deducted from your total score.

 

Required Meetings:

Contestant must attend three (3) meetings. 

1. The first meeting will be for general information.  A parent or guardian must attend the first meeting with the contestant.  This     meeting will be Sunday August 28th 5:00 PM –SJCF office.

 

2. The remaining meetings will be practice riding sessions.  Contestants are required to attend two of these practices.      Contestants are required to bring a copy of the current coggins papers to the queens committee by Sept 17th of the horse     they will be riding in the competition.    If the committee does not receive the copy of the coggins by the 17th deadline the     contestant will not be permitted to ride in the contest.  Riding practices will be held September 11th, 17th, 18th at the SJCF     grounds – time to be announced.

 

 

You will also be required to have a current negative coggins on any horse you bring on the fairgrounds and be ready to present it if asked.

 

 

Required Performances:

1. Contestants are required to ride in the parade on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 2:30 pm.

 

2. Contestants are required to ride in the ranch rodeo on Saturday, September 24, 2011 to compete in their first riding pattern.

 

3. Contestants are required to ride in the rodeo Thursday, September 29, 2011 to compete in their second riding pattern and answer     an impromptu question while in the arena.

 

4. Contestants are required to be at the rodeo on Saturday, October 1, 2011 for the crowning of the queen. 

 

5. Contestants will not be allowed to ride in the grand entry.

 

6. Contestants are required to attend the SJC livestock sale for the sale of all Grand & Reserve Champions and until dismissed by the     Queen’s Committee.

 

 

Sponsors:

Contestants should secure their own sponsor.  The cost of sponsoring a contestant is $150.00.  The sponsor should submit a check payable to the San Jacinto County Fair Association.  Sponsorship fee is due at first meeting.

 

Apparel:

No polo shirts, sweatshirts or tennis shoes.  Contestants are required to wear the following at each event: 

 

Interview:

Jeans or western skirt, a collar shirt (short or long sleeve), western hat, western boots, western belt and banner.

Parade:

Jeans or western skirt, a collar shirt (short or long sleeve), western hat, western boots, western belt and banner.

1st Saturday Night Rodeo:

Black jeans, white oxford shirt, black western hat, black western boots, western belt and banner.

Thursday Night Rodeo:

Black jeans, white oxford shirt, black western hat, black western boots, western belt and banner.

2nd Saturday Night Rodeo:

Jeans, long sleeve button up shirt or western jacket or vest with Proper under shirt, western boots, western belt and banner.

 

Judging:

Nine out of county judges will judge contestants.  There will be three (3) judges at each event (Interview,  Saturday night ride and Thursday night ride).  The percentages for judging are as follows:

            50 points  Horsemanship
            25 points  Interview
            15 points  Speech Presentation
              5 points  Arena Impromptu Question
              5 points  Overall Appearance & presentation of self

 

** Bonus Points – For every $100.00 over the required $500.00 that contestants raise, 1 point will be awarded up to a maximum of 3 points and this does not include sponsorship money.

****Additional Bonus Points will be given for participation in the SJC Fair.  You will receive ½ a point for every year that you have participated by exhibiting a market or breeding animal or an exhibit in the educational barn.  Not to exceed 3 points.

 

Riding Patterns:

Contestants are required to use Western Tack.  There are two riding patterns that will be used, a different pattern for Thursday night and Saturday night.

 

Responsibilities:

As the reigning 2011 San Jacinto Co. Fair & Rodeo Queen, you will be expected to make the following appearances to represent the fair & rodeo.  If these obligations are not met you will be ineligible to receive your scholarship money.

 

1) Appear in the SJC Fair & Rodeo Parade for 2012.

2) Assist in all award presentations at the SJC Fair and Livestock exhibitions in 2012.

3) Appear at the 2012 SJC Fair and Rodeo to set the pattern as Queen for the new contestants and pass down the title of SJC Fair     and Rodeo Queen
